Hollywood Spectra Premier

A look back at the Hollywood Spectra Premier at the Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore. Dr KK Chew was one of the invited speakers at the event, together with Dr Sim and Dr James Y. Wang from the USA.

What was the Hollywood Spectra Premier?

The Hollywood Spectra Premier was the Singapore launch event for the Hollywood Spectra laser platform. It brought aesthetic doctors together to share how the technology is used in clinical practice and what patients can realistically expect from treatment. Dr Chew of NU.U Clinic spoke alongside Dr Sim and Dr James Y. Wang, with discussions covering treatment planning, safety and combination approaches for Asian skin.

Hollywood Spectra is the world’s leading 1064/532nm laser platform with proprietary capabilities to reduce unwanted pigmentation and restore glowing skin. With its unmatched short pulse widths and high peak power, it can help deliver proven and efficient treatments with minimal patient downtime.

5 key highlights from the Hollywood Spectra Premier

Several themes came up again and again during the talks at the Hollywood Spectra Premier:

  • Pigmentation in Asian skin needs a careful approach. Freckles, sunspots and melasma behave differently, so settings and session plans should be tailored rather than one size fits all.
  • Two wavelengths widen the range of concerns. The 1064nm wavelength reaches deeper pigment, while the 532nm wavelength targets more superficial spots.
  • Short pulses help limit heat. Very short, high-powered pulses aim to break up pigment while reducing heat build-up in the surrounding skin.
  • Combination plans are common. Laser sessions are often paired with skincare, daily sun protection and other in-clinic treatments for more balanced results.
  • Consultation comes first. The speakers stressed the importance of assessing skin type, medical history and lifestyle before recommending any laser.

How does Hollywood Spectra work?

How the Hollywood Spectra laser targets pigment beneath the skin

Hollywood Spectra is a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser. It delivers energy in extremely short pulses that are absorbed by pigment in the skin. The pigment breaks into smaller particles, which the body then clears gradually over the following weeks.

Because the laser has two wavelengths, a doctor can adjust the treatment to the depth and type of pigment involved. Lower-energy settings are commonly used for laser toning, which aims to even out skin tone over a series of sessions with minimal downtime.

What can Hollywood Spectra be used for?

Depending on your skin and goals, a doctor may suggest Hollywood Spectra for:

  • Uneven skin tone and dullness
  • Freckles and sunspots
  • Melasma, usually as part of a wider treatment plan
  • Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation after acne
  • Oily skin and the look of enlarged pores, through the Hollywood Peel (carbon laser peel)
  • Unwanted tattoos

Not every concern responds the same way, and some types of pigmentation can worsen if treated too aggressively. This is why an in-person assessment matters before any laser treatment.

What to expect during a Hollywood Spectra session

Most sessions take around 15 to 30 minutes. The skin is cleansed, protective eyewear is put on and the laser is passed over the treatment area. Many people describe a light snapping or warm sensation. Mild redness is common afterwards and usually settles within a few hours.

Several sessions spaced a few weeks apart are often recommended, and results vary from person to person. Good aftercare helps protect your results: wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily, avoid harsh exfoliants for a few days and follow your doctor’s skincare advice.
